*Training begins May 25 at 7:30am and ends May 26 in the evening. Five meals are included and will begin with breakfast on Tuesday and end with lunch on Wednesday. Camping at DM will be available from Monday, May 24 through Thursday, May 27.
This course provides rigorous training in essential skills needed for adequate river safety and rescue in swiftwater contexts. Skills covered will include river reading, rescue priorities, and rescue techniques.
Completion of the course will result in either a Level 3: River Safety and Rescue Skills Assessment or Level 4: Swiftwater Rescue Assessment Certification.*
The main equipment you will need**:
good clothing for swimming
shoes that strap onto your feet and have a solid footbed for walking on rocks and in rivers (closed-toe recommended)
clothing that will keep you warm (not cotton)
Class III Life Jacket
throw rope (ideally 75')
*If you are interested in receiving Skills Assessment certification documentation, you will need to become a member of the American Canoe Associationprior to attending our course. The instructors will file the necessary paperwork and skills assessment reports for your certification. Please email us your Membership Number after you have become an ACA Member. **DM will provide a wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and practice rope at no cost if needed
